During the stretch-reducing of roughly pierced steel tubes considerable saving of material can be achieved by means of process control. The economic benefit, however, only then can be exploited, if the control system is available almost 100%. The present invention provides a control system, the maximum availability achieved in that possible errors in a system communication and database access be ruled out.
