The present invention relates to a method for calibrating a camera for a viewing direction detection in a vehicle, a device for a motor vehicle with a camera and at least one further element and a computer program product. In this case, the at least one further element is arranged in a fixed geometric relationship to the camera. The method includes calibrating by detection, in images of the camera (500), at least one relative change in viewing direction at which a user changes his or her view of the further element (100, 200, 300, 400). The method is characterized in that it is detected on the basis of at least one action of the user that the change of view of the user has taken place or will take place. In that case, the change of view unfolds an advantage through dual use: it serves both the calibration and the action of the user.
