A data transmission system comprising an automotive sensor network system (ASNS) connected to a plurality of source locations via a common bus, the ASNS adapted to determine the source from which the data frames and the first unit checksum are received, and based on determining the source, apply appropriate decoding techniques to calculate the ASNS location frame checksums and the ASNS location checksums. A higher-order redundancy check is performed over a sequence of data frames to detect errors in reception caused by temporary strong spurious conditions that may be present in the transmission path.
