The method involves performing clearing operation (D) of a ballast by a ballast clearing vehicle that evacuates dirt extracted from dirt transport wagons (TR) circulating on a side track (V2) along a work track (V1). Ballast installation operations are performed. The extracted dirt is evacuated (TF) from the work track toward the dirt transport wagons during operation of replacing of the ballast. The replacement of the ballast and the ballast clearing operation are carried by different independent vehicles. An independent claim is also included for an axle system for a railway vehicle.
