The invention relates to a method for determining a curve of the residual saturation S * or of a first fluid in a porous medium, following the injection of a second fluid into the porous medium. The curve is constructed from an N1 * trapping number obtained by measuring the volume distribution of fluid ganglion size in the porous medium. The invention also relates to an assisted hydrocarbon recovery process for which the residual hydrocarbon saturation curve in the porous medium is determined.
