The present invention relates to a method for determining the wind speed to be taken into account in determining the maximum authorized take-off weight of an aircraft (10). A measured speed TASmes of the local wind is calculated from at least a current speed TASinst of said local wind as well as an observed speed TASobs of said local wind from meteorological observations and a first heading value. Said measured speed TASmes and said observed speed TASobs are compared to determine a calculated speed TASperfo of said local wind also using at least one instability criterion of said local wind provided by said observations and by meteorological forecasts. Said calculated speed TASperfo is then to be taken into account to optimize said maximum authorized weight at takeoff of said aircraft (10).
