An internal combustion engine comprises at least one eco-throttled exhaust-powered supercharger comprising at least one positive displacement adiabatic compression-expansion engine in an air intake system, one or more positive displacement adiabatic expansion-compression engine in an exhaust system, one or more variable speed motor-generators, one or more power transmission shafts common with a shaft of at least one of the intake adiabatic engines, at least one of the exhaust adiabatic engines and at least one of the motor-generators and means connecting the speed varying control means of the motor generators to the internal combustion engines throttle control system.
