On board containment apparatus and personal survival apparatus

Apparatus for containing spills of hazardous material from a boat and for personal safety comprising an inflatable balloon (1, figure 1a) and an inflation system (3). The balloon preferably comprises an upper section (10a, figure 1b) containing a gas such as air and a lower section (10b) having water inlet holes to allow the lower section to fill with sea water to hold it under the water. The apparatus may also comprise means for separating and filtering oil from water (5, figure 1a). The apparatus may comprise ladders to allow personnel to climb on top of the balloon in an emergency situation and zipped entrances 15a for accessing a built in safety enclosure 15.
