A method for checking a plurality of magnetic valves 24 in a high-pressure gas tank system 2 of a motor vehicle, wherein the method comprises steps, with which a magnetic valve 24 (12 in fig.1) is activated for opening the magnetic valve 24, a pressure in a high-pressure tank system 2 is measured while activating the electromagnetic non-return valve 24, and it is determined that the magnetic valve 24 is defective if during measuring the pressure a drop in pressure is found. The test is performed when the vehicle engine is idling and an open magnetic valve 24 would will maintain an adequate pressure in the system, where a valve is defective and remains closed the system pressure will drop as the fuel is supplied to the engine, thus a pressure drop will signify a malfunction of the valve if it fails to open.
