The switching contacts are opened by a tripping shaft which is supported by a cam lock held under pre-tension and by an unlatched state of a tripping magnet (M). Current is triggered by passage of a winding (W) used as inductor (L) in a resonant circuit. The resonance frequency of the oscillating circuit (SKS) is detected by resonance circuit. The functioning of the tripping magnet is detected based on detected resonance frequency.
