The method involves detecting the movable portion of a motor engaging a stop, and generating a malfunction signal in response to the detection. A rotor (3) engaging a stop is detected by a sensor operationally connected to a movable portion of the motor so as to change state when the movable portion of the motor engages the stop, with the change in state generating a malfunction signal. An independent claim is included for servo-value.
