The method involves irradiating the objects (2) to be checked with primary high frequency signals, whose frequency is changed continuously or stepwise in a defined frequency range, and determining whether a secondary high frequency radiation is generated during the irradiation of the objects. The secondary or tertiary harmonic of the primary high frequency signals is evaluated by a receiving and evaluation unit (6) depending on the corresponding frequency or amplitude of the primary high frequency signals during occurrence of a secondary high frequency radiation. An independent claim is included for a device for safety check of containers, particularly transport containers for the presence of non-linear electronic or electric components.
