A sensor system for a wing panel assembly of an aircraft includes a first end 14 of a linkage assembly 12 operatively coupled to a first slat panel 16. Also included is a second end 18 of the linkage assembly operatively coupled to a second slat panel 20 with a first ball joint 22. Further included is a block 30 having a cutout portion 34 surrounding the first ball joint. Yet further included is a sensing element 40 disposed proximate the block to detect rotation of the block beyond a predetermined angle.
