In the method of modeling a component error tree for at least one component of a system, the component error tree is linked upstream with a known input and signal downstream with a known output component error tree, using one or more output error modes of the input component error tree as input error modes of the component and one or more input error modes of the component output side component error tree are used as output error modes of the component. The computer program product is designed to receive as input data a fault tree of a multicomponent system having at least one component with an incompletely modeled component fault tree and to perform and preferably provide a method according to one of the preceding claims for modeling at least this component fault tree.
