PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seed discrimination method and seed discrimination device capable of easily and quickly selecting seeds having a high germination rate.;SOLUTION: The method for discriminating measurement object seeds S using light includes: applying light L1 having a wavelength region of visible light from a light source part 10 to a measurement object seed S placed on an upper face 2s of a stage 2; detecting light including light reflected and/or scattered by a seed coat of the measurement object seed S to which the light L1 is applied, as detection light L2; analyzing detection light spectrum created on the basis of spectrum data obtained from the detection light L2; and discriminating a state of the measurement object seed S on the basis of the analysis result. The light including the wavelength region of the visible light can be detected as the detection light L2.
