PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas temperature decreasing tower and an exhaust gas temperature decreasing method, materializing decrease in the temperature of the exhaust gas exhausted from a waste treatment furnace prior to dust removal without requiring an increase in size of an induced blower for feeding exhaust gas after removal of dust to a chimney.SOLUTION: An exhaust gas temperature decreasing tower 4 is provided which receives exhaust gas exhausted from a waste treatment furnace 1 for combusting or melting waste and treating them, atomizes cooling water against the exhaust gas to decrease a temperature of exhaust gas. The tower 4 is configured in such a way that in an upper part of the exhaust gas temperature decreasing tower 4, an exhaust gas feeding port 4B and a cooling water spray nozzle 4C are provided and in a lower part of the tower 4, an exhaust gas discharging port 4D is provided, and in an upper part of a circumferential wall of the exhaust gas temperature decreasing tower 4, a circulation exhaust gas nozzle 4E for blowing a part of the cooled and dust-removed exhaust gas extracted from a position downstream from the exhaust gas temperature decreasing tower 4 into the exhaust gas temperature decreasing tower so as to generate a downward circulating flow within the exhaust gas temperature decreasing tower.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
