PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide selection methods of microorganisms which recognize compounds having a guaiacol structure such as ferulic acid which is present also in animal and plant living bodies, and/or compounds having a 4-methoxyphenol structure and which promote proliferation, and to provide compositions which contain a compound having a guaiacol structure having the growth-promoting activity of pro-biotic lactic acid bacteria and/or compounds having a 4-methoxyphenol structure.SOLUTION: The present inventors developed eagerly a selection method of a microorganism which recognizes compounds having a guaiacol structure and/or compounds having a 4-methoxyphenol structure and which promote proliferation, and thereby found a microorganism which recognizes compounds having a guaiacol structure such as ferulic acid and/or compounds having a 4-methoxyphenol structure and which promotes proliferation, to solve the aforementioned problem.SELECTED DRAWING: None
