A method for producing non-human animal models of corneal dilatation diseases such as corneal neovascularization and keratoconus by applying aromatic compounds to the eyes of non-human animals is described. Also described are non-human animal models of corneal neovascularization and corneal dilatation diseases, and methods of using non-human animal models for screening compounds that modulate corneal neovascularization and corneal dilatation diseases.
