The LED-based solar simulator light source includes at least one LED array formed by LED groups of a plurality of LED assemblies, at least one field smoothing device, at least one diffractive element, and a broad spectrum light source output. At least one optical element configured to adjust the signal to direct the light source output signal to the work surface.
