High frequency ultrasonic transducer with ultrasonic lens with integrated center matching layer

A high frequency ultrasound transducer configured for use with a high frequency ultrasound imaging system is disclosed herein. In one embodiment, the ultrasonic transducer includes a concave lens having an average thickness in the central portion that is substantially equal to an odd multiple of a quarter wavelength of the central frequency of the ultrasonic transducer. In one embodiment, the center frequency of the transducer layer is greater than 15 MHz, the lens layer is acoustically transparent at frequencies greater than 15 MHz, and the average thickness of the central portion of the lens layer is equal to the center frequency of the transducer layer. It is 1/4 of the wavelength.
