The operating system change in the selected service node (NH-NNM (N)) of the high performance computer (CHP) is controlled by one method. The method includes the following steps: for a selected service node, a reduced version of a new operating system to be installed, a boot kernel, a so-called "includes instantiation definition suitable for the new operating system and established in the service node. Defining a “reference” tree node software image and an activation module (ML) that can locally install the reference image on each service node (i). The defined reference image, boot kernel, activation module, and reduced operating system are transferred to the service node (ii). Step (iii) where the transferred activation module (ML) is used at each service node to locally install the transferred reference image.
