PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection method and a detection apparatus for bearing deterioration of a small-diameter roll which allow for the earlier detection of a deteriorated roll bearing.SOLUTION: The detection method for bearing deterioration of a small-diameter roll comprises: an oscillation signal collection step of collecting oscillation signals detected by at least one small-diameter roll out of small-diameter rolls provided on the inlet side or outlet side of a rolling mill; an FET frequency analysis step of performing the frequency analysis of collected oscillation signals by fast Fourier transformation system to acquire frequency components and spectral values of them included in oscillation signals; a peak extraction step of extracting, from the result of frequency analysis, the peak of a fundamental frequency, derived from the deterioration of the bearing of a small-diameter roll, and the peak in a frequency band of n times (n is a positive integer of 2 or more) of the fundamental frequency; and a determination step of determining that a small-diameter roll has bearing abnormality when any of peak spectral values exceeds a predetermined threshold value.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
