PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine starting device for an automobile, etc., that can detect breakage or slipping of a belt without erroneously detecting belt slipping and surely restart an engine.SOLUTION: A control device of a generator motor that starts an engine of an automobile, compares rotation speeds of the generator motor and the engine, when there is a difference equal to or more than set times or a set value, detects that a belt slips while preventing erroneous detection by averaging the rotation speeds or conversion values of the rotation speeds or by not making determination when a sudden change of torque, performs starting by a starter, then prohibits an idling stop, and warns a user of abnormality.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
