PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately and easily evaluate the delayed fracture characteristics of metallic materials to be used under an atmospheric corrosion environment.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for evaluating the delayed fracture characteristics of metallic materials by carrying out once or more a process which consists of a process (A) of making components mainly containing chloride adhere to metallic materials and a process (B) of carrying out at least once a cycle, which includes applying a drying process (b1) of drying a metallic material surface and a wetting process (b2) of wetting the metallic material surface by changing relative humidity to the metallic material passing through the process (A). In the process (A), a component amount mainly containing chloride to be adhered to the metallic materials is 1 to 10000 mg/m, and in the process (B), temperature fluctuation is ±5°C or less, and a humidity change speed in the case of changing the relative humidity in process transition between the drying process (b1) and the wetting process (b2) is less than 30%RH/hr.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
