PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a firm crop selecting device which accurately recognizes an appearance of a firm crop having numerous component parts in an aggregate state and selects the firm crop and a firm crop selecting method.SOLUTION: The firm crop selecting device according to the invention includes: an imaging part for imaging a firm crop having numerous component parts in an aggregate state; a storage part for storing selection reference data which becomes a reference of selection for the firm crop; appearance extraction means for extracting appearance data of the firm crop from the image imaged by the imaging part; and processing means having selection means for selecting the firm crop by comparing the appearance data extracted by this appearance extraction means and the selection reference data. The appearance extraction means recognizes the component parts from the image and the selection means compares the data of the recognized component parts and the selection reference data, thereby selecting the firm crop.
