PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of a hollow particle-containing layer, in which method the thermal insulation properties or cushioning property thereof can be made variable freely without changing a material by a simple method and to provide a production method of a thermal insulation layer of a thermal transfer image receiving sheet and a production method of the thermal transfer image receiving sheet containing the thermal insulation layer.SOLUTION: The production method of the hollow particle-containing layer comprises the steps of: applying a coating liquid, which contains a binder resin, particles each involving a volatile liquid, and a solvent, onto a support to form a coated layer; surfacing the particles in the coated layer by vaporizing the volatile liquid; and removing the solvent contained in the coated layer, while or after surfacing the particles, to form the hollow particle-containing layer.
