PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode material for nonaqueous secondary batteries having superior cycle characteristics even when used with a charge voltage of a high voltage of 4.6 V or higher for the purpose of achieving a high capacity and a high energy density; and a nonaqueous secondary battery arranged by use of such a positive electrode material and superior in charge and discharge characteristics.SOLUTION: A positive electrode material for nonaqueous secondary batteries comprises: a core part; and a shell part covering the core part. The core part is made of a complex oxide having a composition shown by the following general formula (1): LiNiCoMnMO[where M represents a transition metal except Ni, Co and Mn; x is 0.2-0.4; y is 0.2-0.4; and z is 0-0.1]. The shell part is made of a material containing Al. If the atomic concentrations of Ni, Co, Mn and Al at a depth of 1 nm from the surface of the shell part are represented by C, C, Cand Crespectively, and the atomic concentrations of Ni, Co, Mn and Al at a depth of 10 nm from the surface are represented by C, C, Cand Crespectively, the ratio C/(C+C+C+C) of Cto (C+C+C+C) is 0.3-0.6; the ratio C/(C+C+C+C) of Cto (C+C+C+C) is 0.05 or less; and the ratio C/Cof Cto Cis 0.4 or less.
