PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable data decompression to be speeded up.;SOLUTION: Search means 2a of a data compression device 2 examines the array of symbols in data 1 to be compressed, and searches for a second symbol string 1b whose symbol array matches that of a first symbol string 1a which appeared first. Encoding means 2b of the data compression device 2 encodes the second symbol string 1b into a code including information for specifying a block to which belongs a leading symbol of the first symbol string 1a. Code acquisition means 4a of a data decompression device 4 acquires a code from compressed data 3a in order beginning with the top of the compressed data. When the code of the second symbol string 1b is acquired, decompression means 4b of the data decompression device 4 acquires, from storage means 5 and on the basis of information for specifying a block to which belongs a leading symbol of the first symbol string 1a, one or more blocks following a block to which belongs the leading symbol of the decompressed first symbol string 1a, and thereby restores the second symbol string 1b.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2014,JPO&INPIT
