PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a practical technology for separating and recovering rare-earth metal, that enables easy and specific separating and recovering of rare-earth metal without undergoing cumbersome steps with less environmental load and higher safety.SOLUTION: Provided is a rare-earth metal specific peptide including a rare-earth metal binding sequence and &bgr;-sheet-forming sequences franking the binding sequence, where the metal binding sequence includes a motif sequence of specific amino acid sequence of a calcium binding loop region of EF hand, a conformation unit of protein. Also provided is a technology to separate and recover rare earth metal utilizing the peptide.
