Provided are an HDC activation inhibitor and an antipruritic agent which are effective in animals against the itch caused by a itch generation mechanism different from the well-known one.;An HDC activation inhibitor or antipruritic agent which is at least one member selected from (1) a particular flavonoid, (2) a tannin, (3) chlorogenic acid, (4) a particular stilbenoid, or a glucoside or pharmaceutically acceptable derivative of any of (1) to (4) given above, or (5) a particular crude drug extract, (6) walnut polyphenol.
