In situ sampling and analysis system for a drilling rig and a drilling platform incorporating the same invention relates to an in situ sampling and analysis system (10) supported by a drilling rig (12). system (10) incorporates a frame (26) carrying sampling equipment to analyze drill cuts produced during drilling. This equipment includes a drill cut handling system (28) and an emission spectrometer (30). frame 26 is movable to an operating position that facilitates the acquisition of drill cut samples and conducts elemental analysis of the cuts. Before the drilling rig (12) is towed to the desired location for drilling an additional hole, the frame (26) is raised from the operating position to retract the equipment from ground level. Sampling of drillings and determination of the composition of a mineral body is performed in real time simultaneously with drilling.
