The present invention relates to multi-material blades used as active regenerative regenerators in active regenerative magnetocaloric or electrocaloric motors. The blades consist of a plurality of elements (2) that divide the blade body along its length. each element (2) is made of a suitably selected different magnetocaloric or electrocaloric material and a plurality of dedicated channels (3) penetrate the blade body (1) and extend along the length of the blade. dedicated channels (3) may be provided with mixed fluid structures, porous layers or hydrophobic coatings to reduce loss in an active regenerative motor. Multi-material blades are obtainable by inkjet printing techniques to reduce costs. the multi-material blades may additionally have a curved shape to form an evolving blade body (1). all measurements can increase the performance of active regenerative magnetocaloric or electrocaloric motors and set the foundation for commercial solutions.
