A method of detection of single nucleotide polymorphism in drug response, disease predisposing, phenotype/trait manifestation, individual identity and others in polynucleotide sequences or genes using gold nanoparticles comprising steps of generating PCR (polymerase chain reaction) amplicons labelled with thiol group at the 5 end of one of the strands; developing the amplicons by using isothermal allele-specific or PCR allele specific method; mixing the labelled PCR amplicons with the gold nanoparticles along with the phosphate buffered saline and NaCI to produce the chromogenic product; visualising the genotype sample depending on the colour development through salt induced aggregation of gold nanoparticles.
