Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have an adverse effect on health, leading to reduced life expectancy and/or increased health problems. Body mass index (BMI) is a measurement which compares weight and height, defines people as overweight (pre-obese) if their BMI is between 25 and 30 kg/m2, and obese when it is greater than 30 kg/m2. Rats were randomly divided into five groups; of six each. Group I: was served as vehicle control (received 1ml/100 g, po, normal saline solution); Group II: served as cafeteria diet control, Group III and Group IV receives capparisterol in dosages 35 mg/kg and 70 mg/kg respectively. Group V was served reference standard drug (Sibutramine 5 mg/kg/day, po). The treatment was continued for 40 days. Capparisterol shows dose dependent activity. It lowers triglyceride and cholesterol similar to standard drug sibutramine.
