The invention relates to a functional active (copper-chitosan-menthol) edible enrobe for extending the shelf life of climacteric fruits, comprising a conjugate of active copper nanoparticles (Cu-NP) and menthol in predetermined amount in a chitosan matrix of edible enrobe and a method of preparation of said edible enrobe formulation, thereby determining a significant enhancement in efficacy.
