The present invention relates to a system for detection of leading edge of moving hot billets (20) thereafter controlling movement of said hot billets in a continuous casting mill. The system comprises means for sensing temperature of the billets when the temperature crosses a predetermined temperature threshold. Sensing means (21) are operatively connected to interfacing means generating output signals corresponding to the temperature sensed by the sensing means (21).
