METHOD FOR UPDATING OCR SOFTWARE IN MAIL PROCESSING SYSTEMS

The method involves applying primary optical character recognition processing (OCR1) to a digital image of a mail piece for recognizing information using primary optical character recognition. Secondary optical character recognition processing (OCR2) is applied to the image for recognizing the information using the secondary processing that is improved relative to the primary OCR, so as to obtain additional results for recognizing the information. The results are encoded and overlaid in the image in a form that is recognizable by the primary recognition processing, and are extracted and used. An independent claim is also included for a postal sorting installation including an apparatus for recognizing specific information on a mail piece.
