The invention relates to the use of (i) a phospholipid, (ii) a neutral lipid, and (iii) a cholate salt in the manufacture of an emulsion for treating sepsis in a subject, wherein the subject has been screened to determine their level of serum albumin, total cholesterol and high density lipoprotein and wherein the medicament is formulated as an emulsion, and wherein the subject exhibits (a) a serum albumin level of at least 1.5 g/dL, and (b) one or both of a total cholesterol level of at least 40 mg/dL and a high density lipoprotein level of at least 20 mg/dL.
