The invention relates to a method for treating waste with a risk of infection, cytostatic and cytotoxic waste and waste of non-cytostatic drugs, and to apparatus for implementing said method, said method comprising: grinding the waste in a closed system; mixing the ground waste with oxidising agents, following a specific oxidation process for each type of waste; and depositing the treated waste in a solids collection tank (14), with separation of the liquid element and analysis, for dumping as urban waste. The apparatus (1) comprises a grinding unit (2) with a receiving conveyor belt (4), a receiving hopper (5) and a grinder (6), and a treatment unit (3) with a mixing reactor (11) and a solids collection tank (14), a closed and hermetic transport device (8) being located between the two units.
