Granules comprising diltiazem HCl, said granules being characterized by: a) an internal core of diltiazem HCl having an average diameter of 500-5 710 micrometers; b) a layer of diltiazem HCl that spherically surrounds the core, applied to the core by spraying a suspension containing diltiazem HCl powder; c) an external coating that is capable of providing a sustained release of diltiazem HCl; said granules generally having an average diameter of 1000-1200 micrometers and a diltiazem HCl titer greater than or equal to 90% by weight.
