Method of manufacturing a sheet of paper and / or cardboard and the like, according to which, before or after said sheet is formed, the cellulosic material is contacted with at least one additive, characterized in that said additive is a (co ) cationic or amphoteric polymer resulting from the reaction between at least one aldehyde and at least one (co) base polymer comprising at least one nonionic monomer selected from the group comprising acrylamide (and / or methacrylamide), N, N-dimethylacrylamide , and / or acrylonitrile, said base copolymer being previously modified with at least one polyfunctional compound comprising at least 3 heteroatoms selected from N, S, O, P, of which at least 3 of these heteroatoms each have at least one hydrogen mobile; the (co) base polymer being modified with at least one polyfunctional compound, either incorporating additional polyfunctional compound (s) before or during the polymerization of the constituent comonomers of the (co) base polymer, or by grafting of the additional polyfunctional compound (s) in the base (co) polymer; the polyfunctional compound (s) being selected from the group comprising polyethyleneimines (PEI), primary polyamines, secondary polyamines, polyallylamines, polythiols, polyols, epichlorohydrin polyamides (PAE), and polyamines amides (PAA); the aldehyde being selected from the group comprising glyoxal, glutaraldehyde, furan dialdehyde, 2-hydroxyadipaldehyde, succinaldehyde, dialdehyde starch, 2,2-dimethoxyethanal, diepoxy compounds, and combinations thereof.
