A casket comprising a casket underbody and an outer covering applied to thecasket underbody to produce a finished casket. The casket underbody, i.e.casket lid andcasket body, may be fabricated from lower cost wood, metal or plasticmaterials. Theouter covering comprises a thin film and a base layer applied to the outersurface of thecasket underbody. According to an embodiment, the outer covering may becustomizedor personalized according to the wishes or likes of the beloved deceased, orthe familythereof, for example, the outer covering may be personalized with an artworkdesign for afavourite sport's team, or for a pet.
