A method for translatinglevels of diet quality into photographicrepresentations of dietary pattern. Themethod includes the steps of (a) using adiet quality measure to identify a pluralityof dietary patterns that each represent alevel of diet quality for a period of time;(b) assigning a dietary score to each of theplurality of dietary patterns; (c) convertingthe plurality of dietary patterns into representativedietary patterns; and (d) convertingthe representative dietary patterns intofood photographs. The food photographsdepict the photographic representation ofthe dietary patterns for the period of time.The photographic representations of dietarypatterns can be used to establish an individualor household's dietary pattern andcan be incorporated into programs to navigatea user from a current dietary patternto a more optimal dietary pattern.
