Disclosed are an automatic detection method and system for neonatal jaundice, wherein the method comprises: step 1, determining the direction of a colourimetric card in an image; determining whether six colour blocks all accurately appear at corresponding positions of the colourimetric card; and detecting whether the colour blocks of the lower left corner and lower right corner of the colourimetric card in the image are a black-grey nested colour block or a white-grey nested colour block in the corresponding direction; step 2, judging whether the image meets a detection requirement; step 3, performing colour correction on the image meeting the detection requirement, so as to obtain a colour-corrected image; and step 4, performing off-line supervised training on a plurality of colour-corrected images, and predicting a total serum bilirubin measurement by analysing a neonatal chest image. A lot of experiments prove that the method has a clear flow, high computational efficiency and accurate calculated results, and the method provides a simple, non-invasive method for performing neonatal jaundice detection, being greatly convenient for doctors and parents of newborns.
