PTHrP, its isoforms and antagonist thereto in the diagnosis and treatment of disease

The present invention is directed to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases,preferably the inhibition of tumor growth and its progression to metastaticsites, through the inhibition of the action or production of PTHrP, its isoformsor PTHrP signalling. An aspect of the present invention is also directed to methodsof inhibiting the PTHrP1-173 isoform through antagonists thereof, includingmonoclonal antibodies and siRNA directed there against. The invention may beapplicable to many disease states, including but not limited to several typesof cancer (including epithelial cancers such as breast, lung, colon, pancreatic,ovarian, prostate and squamous as well as melanoma) expressing PTHrP and itsisoforms, alone or in combination with other therapeutic agents.
