Method for quantifying the total silicon content due to volatile silicon-containing organic compounds present in a gas. Method for detecting and/or quantifying the total silicon content due to volatile silicon-containing organic compounds present in a gas, wherein: a) a sample of said gas is taken; b) said sample of said gas is brought into contact with at least one possibly polar or non-polar solvent able to extract at least some of said volatile silicon-containing organic compounds into said solvent; c) the total amount of silicon due to the volatile silicon-containing organic compounds contained in at least one solvent used in step b) is determined; and d) the total amount of silicon due to the volatile silicon-containing organic compounds present in said gas is calculated, said method being characterised in that, between step b) and step c), at least some of the volatile silicon-containing organic compounds are converted into dissolved silica.
