A water level monitoring system based on Internet of Things (IoT) and for water conservation and hydropower engineering comprises several water level monitoring devices. The water level monitoring device comprises a support post (3) disposed vertically, a drive shaft (2) and a solar panel (1) disposed at a top end of the support post (3), a central control device disposed on the support post (3) and three water level detectors (6) disposed at a lower portion of the support post (3). The three water level detectors (6) are disposed on the support post (3) along a vertical direction and at an equal distance therebetween. The water level monitoring devices in the IoT-based water level monitoring system for water conservation and hydropower engineering perform real-time communication with a backend via a wireless communication module (9), such that operation staff can perform real-time monitoring of the water level at a site. In addition, reliability of the system is ensured by accurately measuring a water level via a water level monitoring circuit to guarantee real-time knowledge of the water level at each site. Moreover, by using a solar panel (1), the device saves energy and also achieves operational sustainability.
