Procedures, methods, architectures, apparatuses, systems, devices, and computer program products directed to scalable software-defined networking (SDN) Bloom filter (BF) based forwarding are provided. Embodiments comprise simple BF-based matching that is readily realized in SDN and that supports any topology size. Other embodiments comprise simple BF-based matching, readily realized in SDN, that supports any topology size and that retains a simple OR-based multicast group formation capability. An SDN element may compute suitable path information based on BF representations of zones of delivery/network graphs. A sender may instantiate the path information (BF representations) in a matching field and/or other packet portion, and inject the packet into a SDN network. SDN switches may inspect the incoming packet and perform a suitable BF matching function to determine outgoing packet forwarding port(s) and/or perform or trigger a matching field replacement procedure where no BF match is determined.
