Disclosed are a preparation of a hard carbon negative electrode material for a lithium ion power battery and a modification method therefor, falling within the field of lithium ion battery materials. In the method, a plant extract, a resin and pitch are used as precursors; the hard carbon negative electrode material is prepared by processes of cross-linking polymerization, pre-carbonization, carbonization, comminution, etc.; next, a chemical vapor deposition method is used to perform the surface coating modification of the prepared hard carbon material. After the hard carbon material is modified, the first coulombic efficiency reaches 84.69%, the first reversible capacity reaches 323.5 mAh/g, and the capacity retention ratio after 100 cycles is greater than 98.5%.
