The invention relates to a battery system (BS1, BS2), particularly for a hybrid electric vehicle / electric vehicle, comprising: one or at least two battery cells (Z0, Z1, Z2) connected in series and at least one voltage equalising circuit (SA) for equalising the voltage (Uz1) on the battery cell or on one of the at least two battery cells (Z1) connected in series; wherein the at least one voltage equalising circuit (SA) comprises an equalising current path (SP) and a measuring arrangement (MA); wherein the equalising current path (SP) is electrically connected between a positive current connection (PA) and a negative current connection (NA) of the battery cell or at least one of the two battery cells (Z1), and comprises two resistances (R1, R2) and a controllable equaliser switch (T1), wherein the two resistances (R1, R2) and the equaliser switch (T1) are connected in series in relation to each other; and the measuring arrangement (MA) is electrically connected to an electrical connection point (VP) between the two resistances (R1, R2) on the side of the signal input, and is designed to detect a first voltage potential (Φ1) on the electrical connection point (VP).
